The President's recent visit to Iraq is yet another example of the disdain in which our politicians hold us. There isn't an intelligent human being alive who doesn't see the trek for what it was. Did the yokels across America think it was a brave and noble gesture? Possibly, but not defintely. There are some morons, but not THAT many.
President Lincoln said, "You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all of the time." 'Nuff' said.
In retrospect it was a carefully planned and well executed scheme. The President got in and out and didn't get himself killed. What did he gain? Some modicum of respect from the troops and temporary stabilization of his eroding voter base. What did he lose? Probably, not much. Those who dislike him just gained another pound of dislike.
The point is, he's a politician, and like so many of his ilk, there isn't much he won't do. There was an element of risk. Can you imagine if he were shot down and captured by unfriendly Iraquis?
It's a whore's business, and he's the Prostitute in Chief.November 30, 2003
