Not All Military Families AgreeBeing ex military, I know what goes on in the minds of fighting men and women. It is us against them, pure and simple. Very few serve and oppose the war. The peer pressure is enormous, and the propaganda from the military itself is relentless.
However, not all the mothers and fathers or wives and husbands agree with the current Iraq situation. There are organizations with thousands of members who are vehemently against the war, and many have been so from the beginning.
No one wants their kin to die, but this is not so much fear for their loved ones as it is an honest disagreement with the war based on the reasons for the war.
It must be very difficult to have such mixed emotions, as do these patriotic moms, dads et al. Naturally, they want us to win any combat encounters, yet they wish there were no encounter at all.
Unlike Viet Nam, these military members will come home to hugs and cheers. They will not be considered 'baby killers', though many babies did die, and have done so since the first Gulf War. But, this nation, thankfully, has a different mindset today.
If the President thinks he can count on thevotes of everyone associated with our troops, he's wrong. The Conservative Talk Hosts may not be interviewing these people, but they are out there. They can be found at numerous websites.
